I don't find The Office funny in a laugh out loud way, like say, Father Ted.
It's a comic drama heavy on pathos, but it is brilliantly observed. The
character Finchy for example, there are people out there just like him, and
the IT guy who only appeared briefly was a genius bit of writing too.
In the same genre, Gervais isn't in the same league as Larry David & the
Spinal Tap team. In interviews, I personally find Stephen Merchant to be
the funny one.
