They look more slapstick that Will Hay. Hay's films were very British and
rarely featured US style slapstick.

Oh yes. Some of the films were pretty poor.

Marriot was the bloke with the beard (Always called Jeremiah Harbottle:-))
and Graham Moffatt was the fat lad who was too smart for his own good.
Most of Will Hay's best films feature the trio of Hay, Marriott and Moffat.
Hay eventually dumped them to avoid becoming an "act" with them. (When he
moved to Ealing).
