Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't DVD-RAM essentially the optical
disc equivalent of a hard drive? In that sense, couldn't the OP simply
put a DVD-RAM in his DVD recorder and use it as a semi-permanent
time-shifting device, recording, editing and deleting TV programs at his
own leisure. This would seem more convenient than dealing with a clunky
VHS tape IMO. And he wouldn't even have to worry about the disc wearing
out like a tape quickly would...
