Regardless of how you download them, with TV shows, or anything shorter
than 80 minutes, you may have better luck burning them to VCD's -
generally I've had spotty results burning DVD's, and have some good
ones among a small pile of coasters/former blank DVD-R's. Good
programs are Nero/Burning ROM.
If your video files are AVI files, Nero will usually convert them to
the proper MPEG format and burn them. However - many of my files are
burnt without sound - I don't know why, but I have a solution -
one that requires two programs and isn't as tricky or complicated as
it sounds. Use a free program called VirtualDub to save the soundtrack
of your .avi file as a .wav file. Use a second program called TempGNC
to then create an MPEG file using the .avi as the source for the video
data, and the .wav file as the source for the audio - Nero should
then burn a readable and widely playable VCD. Roxio EMC 8 is another
candidate for burning both VCD & DVD's, but it's confusing
interface is guaranteed to leave you with a small pile of unusuable
DVD's before you're done.
