Maybe it has to do with the relative weight you attach to sins like
materialism, racism, and militarism compared to teenage sexual behavior.
Just one example-- there were lynchings in the U.S. in the early part of
this century in so-called "Christian" communities. Almost nobody was
ever arrested, charged, or punished for them. The people responsible
certainly went to church on Sunday.
Do you shrug that off and say, well, at least they prayed in school and
read the 10 commandments. Or do you, like me, come to believe that what
people say they do and what they actually do might be two entirely
different things, and the fact that people are far more open today about
sex doesn't necessarily mean that personal morality has really declined.
Attitudes about race are not what they should be, but they are certainly
better than they were. Is racism something you feel is an indicator of
a society's godlessness?
But that's all I'll say on the subject out of respect for the topic of
newsgroup.
