regarding dropout, here's something we don't understand at all and maybe
someone could clarify this . . almost 1 in 3 "new" miniDV tapes have one or
more dropped frames during a taping. that is, 1 tape in 3 will result in
dropped frames (from 1 or 2 frames dropped to as many as 15 to 30)
however, a once used tape does not drop the frames. in other words, once
the tape which dropped frames is re-used and recorded over, we don't observe
the dropped frames issue.
anyone who understands this, please jump in and shed some light on an
otherwise dark tunnel?
btw, for anyone who is so interested, when we switched from pro tapes to
consumer grade tapes (bought at wal-mart . . that's right . . wal-mart in a
pinch) we found NO DIFFERENCE in dropped frame performance nor an effect on
output quality. but then again, if it gets the information recorded, the
output would be the same . . after all . . it's only 0's and 1's :o)
