No. The difference is that the vast majority of movies and even TV programs
were available at much higher quality levels than VHS could display. That is
no longer the case. Until studios start shooting everything with HD Digital
Video cameras there is actually very little they can do to increase the
quality of the vast majority of programs and movies.
Therefore buying say Independence Day or Titanic or Friends on HD-DVD or
Blue-Ray isn't likely to increase the quality to a large enough degree. At
least not like it was from VHS to DVD.
