If the disc is faulty Play etc. have to offer a replacement (by law ...
probably the Sale of Goods Act). This includes if they don't last.
Persuading them is the hard bit as most retailers are not keen to
publicize it and don't train their staff in customers legal rights. Its
their job to take it up with the manufactuer - not yours. A polite, but
persistent, complaint especially from a regualr customer should get
results (partly because so few people complain).
