You don't 'need' a new television. All those with HDTVs right now will be
able to get a HD signal from movies. Guaranteed in HD if they have HDMI or
DVI/DHCP. Not guaranteed, but likely with early releases if no DHCP enabled
digital input is available.
Other TVs, like my 15 year old 27" RCA with composite inputs?
SURE! These players output video at regular old-fashioned 480i levels which
happily will show video on my old TV.
As for VCRs... well, sure you COULD buy stuff on VCR tapes and studios make
them, but those numbers shrink every day. I have been in my new house for
almost a year now... still haven't hooked up my VCR. Haven't had ONE
occassion where I've wanted it.
