Jeff - this is exactly the issue I have with some of your posts and why I
doubt their validity - and why I think others should as well.

MPEG1 Layer 2 (mp2)

(from wikipedia)
"MP2, also known as Musicam, is a short form of MPEG Audio Layer II, and it
is also used as a file extension for files containing audio data of this
type. While it has largely been superseded by MP3 for PC and Internet
applications, it remains a dominant standard for audio broadcasting as part
of the DAB digital radio and DVB digital television standards. It is also
used internally within the radio industry, for example in NPR's PRSS Content
Depot programming distribution system"

No broadcaster went with it or use it? Then how in the world does this
broadcast provider stay in business...

Come on - mp2 is in use by broadcasters - TODAY. It was designed for
broadcast usage. It isn't a video format, it's an audio format, and at
higher bit rates it is considered superior to the mp3 format which is
exactly why it is used.

Strange you should ask if *I* did one second of research...

I may get some terminology incorrect, but a lot of this research I did about
5 years ago when researching mp2 vs. mp3 formats and why certain digital
audio servers were only using mp2 at the time.

No, I'm attacking you for your constant stupidity.

You based paragraphs and paragraphs of claims on this statement:

"Professional broadcasters went with the older MPEG2 audio over MPEG3
despite MP3 being a better/newer technology."

Yet, the reality is that "MPEG-2" is *newer* than MPEG-1, layer 3
(commonly called "MP3"), and *no* broadcaster uses MPEG-1, layer 2,
which you are now claiming is what you meant by "MPEG-2".

MPEG-2 has audio standards that are distinct (and better than) any of
the MPEG-1 formats. You'd know this if you did even one second of
research.
