Hello:
From the start you should know that I am using a laptop that has a
memory slot problem that prevents me from having more than 256MB RAM.
At first I thought this might be the problem, but read on.
I have tried to make sure that I have had as much available memory
as possible. (The specs said that 256 would be adequate.) I have also
tried to make sure there is adequate disk space. (I run XP and the
latest version of Nero 6, just downloaded.)
Here's what I have done recently: I now have more disc space freed
up (6+ GB) and am running "barebones" in order to maximize available
RAM. MSconfig is actually set to diagnostic mode and I have even gone
so far as to shut down EXPLORER before burining. I have monitored my
"performance" with Task Manager while Nero is running, and although it
indicates 100% CPU usage at the bottom of the Window, there is always
plenty of available RAM. The commit charge never exceeds 225 MB or so.
The CPU is a Pentium 4 running at 1.69MH (min required: 1.5). I have
the virtual memory page size set very large (in the order of 2GB
starting and max). Also I have performance optimized for cache, not
programs. (Please advise as while these make sense to me they may
be in error and hence counterproductive!)
The project consists of 22 AVI clips with a total running time of
well less than 15 minutes. What is most frustrating is that with
repeated burns with exactly the same settings the freeze
starts at widely different points. Some times I'm less than a few
seconds into the first clip. but I've gotten as far as four. (I've
actually gotten as far as four with NO RAM-saving methods.) Watching
task manager, the freeze actually often occurs with higher available
RAM, so that would make me think RAM is not the issue. When the freeze
occurs, the CPU use goes to 100% and stays there.
So far I have successfully produced a single DVD with a 2-min
clip, nothing longer!
Any ideas?
Thank you!
Frank
