I saw your post. The subject is not touchy. Your question is impossibly
broad. Video is no different than any other business. You decide what you
want to do. After working in the business for awhile for someone who does
what you want to do successfully, you will acquire experience. That
experience will allow you to make estimates about the time it takes to do
things, such as edit a rock show or a wedding. You decide what your time is
worth. You total up the value of your time. You determine what you will
have to pay out of pocket, such as other people to help you cart the gear or
operate the second camera, the raw tape stock, transportation, camera or
audio equipment rental, lights rental or purchase, and a few dozen other
things. Total all those costs pertaining to the job and add some percentage
markup--- to buy more equipment or pay the rent or the light bill. And, so
on. That's how I, as you say, "put a price on it." What I feel my time is
worth may be very different from how you value your time. My investment in
equipment may be very different than yours. On the other hand, I am likely
to be far more accurate with my estimates. If you have no experience at
all, your estimates of time and cost are very, very likely to be way off.
Now, the short answers: The rock show ... I wouldn't touch it for less than
$18,000. Others might do it for $5,000 or just for fun if it is a hobby.
Very nice wedding videos in the Chicago area go for $3,000 to $5,000
routinely and the skies the limit for really upscale weddings. I am always
amazed at the quality an experienced and talented wedding video producer can
deliver. These are not home movies I'm talking about.

Now, before you pose another question go to
http://www.videouniversity.com/article2.htm About halfway down the page
is a section on the business of video. Read every article there. Then,
come back with your questions.
