I've been shooting with an XL2 for about a year and a half, and it's a
great camera. As bernie says, the main drawback is the weight.I
countered the "front heavy" problem with an Anton Bauer battery , etc.
on back, and that helped balance it out.
For tripod use, you can't beat it. The image is beautifull and fully
customizable, plus the camera shines an 16:9. It's just a bit heavy to
carry around hand held for long periods of time.
As a matter of fact, I have an all day run and gun shoot on wednesday,
and wish I had one of the satbilizing systems (eg., dv rig xl by
dvtech.tv)
You can't go wrong with an XL2.

P.S.- I'm also a recording engineer, and I find the on board audio to
be quite good.
