There is an Ampex VHS machine that was actually designed for this sort of
thing. However, it has an extensive TBC gadget hanging off the side, which
may be a problem for PCM.
VHS cannot be baked because it does not suffer from sticky shed. There are
other things that go wrong with it, but not sticky shed. I have seen Type C
videotapes that can get sticky shed and the last generation of Quad tapes
had the faulty binder. But not VHS tapes. Baking is a particular solution
for a particular problem and shouldn't just be applied willy-nilly to any
tape.
