I am looking for a DVD recorder and would appreciate an explanation ofhow the different features of recorders translate into actual
 functions. Such as:

DVD Ram - Does this function like a hard drive.

Regions - Reading through this group I have seen references to
Regions. Does this restrict the use of a recorder?

Time Slip - I want to be able to pause a live recording. Can this be
done with DVD Ram or do I need to go to a hard drive.

I have heard some TV programs cannot be recorded on some machines. Is
this true and if so are there machines that do not recognize the anti
copy feature of TV programs or movies for that matter.

With respect to value I want to buy a recorder that will suit my needs
with out spending a whole bunch of money. That said I also do not want
to cheap out and end up with something that does not quite do what I
want it to do and is a PITA to use.

Oh yeah I am currently on Bell ExpressVu Satellite if that makes any
 difference.

Any advice or recommendations are welcome.

 Thanks,
