How are you transferring them to the iPod? Are you just dragging them or
are you using iTunes? Many PC-compatible MP3 players are OK with
transferring the files by dragging them to the device (which looks to
the PC like a removable hard disk). The iPod can also look like a
removable hard disk, but if you drag MP3 (or AAC) files to it, iTunes
and the iPod firmware will NOT find them. You MUST transfer them using
iTunes.

Now, there are some great utilities to circumvent this "feature", but
let's solve the problem first...
