Tokyo-based Canon plans to broaden its business by entering the TV
market next year using a new kind of flat-panel technology it's
developing with Japanese electronics maker Toshiba Corp.
Today, flat TVs usually employ either liquid crystal displays or plasma
displays.
Canon's planned TVs use SEDs, or surface-conduction electron-emitter
displays, with a beam-emitting technology similar to old-style
cathode-ray TVs.
