http://www.emusic.com/ is about as close as you can come to what
you're looking for. Here's the thing: there are no fully legit' sites
selling MP3 versions of the heavily promoted music that you seem to be
looking for, so because eMusic is legit' you're not going to find most of
what you want there. If you don't mind what you teach your child there are a
number of Russian sites that will sell you what you want relatively
inexpensively because they're not licensed by the copyright holders and
don't pay any royalties to non-Russian artists. That MP3sugar site is an
example of that, there are a number of others. Only a complete idiot would
give them their credit card info.
MP3s do not have "digital rights management", so you can do whatever
you want with them. In the States none of the major record labels are
licensing their music for sale online without DRM, so you find that stuff in
other formats, if it's available at all. Some of the European companies do,
thus you have companies like http://www.wippit.com/default_front.aspx but
you have to be careful with these guys because some of their stuff does have
DRM and a very limited usage licence. In some cases the song expires after a
period of time and the file is worthless.
