I have a DVD player connected to my plasma via component. When I watch a
4:3 ratio dvd the picture is stretched across my plasma (because there is no
aspect ratio switching obviously). My plasma is rather limited on the
options I can give as regards to a default zoom. If I change it 4:3 then
when I play a widescreen dvd the picture fits in 4:3 size on the screen, and
I have to change the zoom again.
My dvd player seems to be on its way out (red band lines appearing on the
screen), so I am thinking of getting a new one. Can anyone recommend a new
dvd player that will put proper letter box padding around 4:3 pictures so
they are always outputted as 16:9 via the component outputs (or is this not
possible with any dvd player?). I would also like it to upconvert and have
progressive scan if possible.
