Well, the problem is probably solved. I bought a Coby MPC741 at Fred Meyer.
Cost $60, which is the normal price. It was not on sale. It comes with
256MB of memory, and will accept an added 512MB SD card. It's quite small,
and runs off a single AAA battery. It doesn't require any software, unless
your operating system is 98SE; an 8cm CD is included for those users.
When I've had more experience with it, I'll post more details.
