I often tell users with 512 MB that IMHO 1 gig of ram is what most 1.6 GHz
+ computers need to get enough 'elbow room' to move and even more so with
win XP. But I have seen many replies in forums/usenet after mine say its
not needed.
The step up to 1 GB from 512 is, as you say, like night and day, the gains
do tail off after that, but still gets better. I dont run less than 2 GB
on any box that is used for video work, another thing I do is to dual boot
with the side that I use for editing, is just for that, so I dont have
other installs running, or just clogging up the registry, and windows
itself.
