Well, Antony, I had to ask, just in case, and I wish I had guessed
right.
I guess you should bug Sony (pun intended, sorry!).
Can you set up a manual recording for the show in question? Or for the
portion starting at midnight?
Can you still return the device to the shop and buy another brand, or
is it too late now?
