The big problem as I see it is that often times you don't know what you are
getting until you buy open and run a little program on one that tells you
the brand.
I really think something needs to be done because in the long run it is only
making the technology look week and poorly thought out.
As a side note. I just purchased 16 of each the Delkin Archival Good CD-R
and DVD-R discs. The CDs claim a lifespan of 300 years on these and 100
years on the DVD. I am going to ask why such a big difference as well as how
they know they will last that long. I know they contain real gold and they
have an added protective scratch layer that other discs don't have. But, I
would like to know why 300 on CD-R and only 100 on DVD-R. I think this may
finally show that DVD discs aren't not as durable as CD. This of course
doesn't apply to commercially pressed discs since they are way different
from the consumer burnable ones. But, it is still interesting.
