DVD is a standard. 720x480 in the United States. If you deviate from that
standard, it is no longer a DVD.

Why not get a player that supports .avi, .mpeg,. ,mp4 and such?

I have a Philips DVP-642 and it plays just about anything you put in it.

I do movies with DivX encoder at any resolution and use the divx converter
to make menus, etc. Pop it into the DVP-642, pop some corn....
