If you're going DL music without a care towards licensing, you might as
well go the P2P route and install WinMX or DC++. Both of them are free
and contain no embedded spyware. They're probably no less legal under
copywrite law than either Allofmp3.com or any of the outside US
services (if you're in the USA), and they're obviously cheaper.
On a similar thread, somebody nevertheless defended sites like this
based on the problem of fake files that seem to be seeded in peer
networks. I've never used these pay-services, though based on what
their owners claim, I don't see how they can maintain sufficient QA to
screen out fakes. The head of allofmp3 even admitted this, saying that
there's too much media for his staff to handle - they can't do a check
of each file. Fakes aren't much of a problem for peer nets as long as
you're willing to put an effort and attention into your file searches
and learn the basics of downloading - it beats the pre-pre-internet
years when mix-tapes, scratched 45's and scant radio airplay were the
only ways to get the music you wanted.
