According to the excellent Mr Pratt -
http://www.dvdlaser.com/search/detail.cfm?id=2009 - the letterboxing on the
(non-anamorphic) Anchor Bay widescreen version "masks picture information
off the top and bottom of the image and doesn't appear to add anything to
the sides".
So maybe the choice isn't quite so difficult after all....
