Not up on MAC software but I would suggest until you sort it out try burning  
to DVD-RW rewriteable. Did the avi file play okay before burning? Maybe  
Toast doesn't have a codec to resolve avi files, assuming it was a Xvid or  
DviX file and the sound track typically was mp3???
