That's because the film was a matted widescreen to begin with. The widescreen
image is the way it was seen in theaters, and the information masked off the top
and bottom wasn't intended to be a part of the picture,

You're right. It's not difficult at all: go for the widescreen Anchor Bay
release, if you can find it.
