On Saturday, I saw that Lenny Henry's excellent series "Chef!" from the
early 90's had been released on DVD. I bought the first two series, and
am working my way through them .Last night I watched episode 4 of
series 1, "The Big Cheese", and noticed what looked like a layer change
half way through, but as I continued to watch I realised that it was a
bad edit, and that a chunk of the episode was missing. (It is the one
where Gareth is trying to find some real Stilton, and goes out of the
Chateau to meet a farmer, encountering the police on the way.) The
whole scene outside the Chateau is missing - according to the times
quoted by the DVD player, this episode is only 24 minutes long, while
all others on the disc are a full half hour. What is really annoying is
that there is even a still from the missing scene on the menu for this
episode!
I've tried the disc on two players, and it doesn't seem to be a problem
with this disc or a player incompatibility - it looks as if the Beeb in
their infinite wisdom have just thrown that scene away, which then
makes most of the episode following it make very little sense.
Before I email them and complain, I'd just like to ask if anyone else
out there has a copy of this disc with a full 30 minute episode 4 on
it? I suppose it's just possible I have a defective disc, but it seems
unlikely...
