Millions of people use mini-DV without interchange probems.
I see the other side of Mr. Horridge's coin, that mini-DV is a
remarkably robust format that is implemented in equipment like
camcorders which sell for less than a reel of professional video
tape. Camcorders which are smaller than just the head assembly
of the original 2-inch quad videotape format, etc.
There is no fundamental problem with mini-DV (or any other
popular videotape format). The OP simply has a camcorder
which needs alignment. Simple as that. No conspiracy here
folks, move along.
