I haven't used any rw discs for awhile. but im pretty sure formatting
them erases any recorded content on them. dvd-ram media is the same way.
personally i find dvd-ram media to be much more reliable. their are alot
of concerns about the lifetime of dvd-r and dvd+r
media. also rw media. some think the organic dye goes bad in a short
time. some believe it can last 50-100 years if the discs are kept out of
humid conditions. and kept clean of scratches. those who use this media
know how scratch prone the discs are. their are new dvd blank media
discs out by a few brands that claim to be scratch free like a dvd-ram
disc. now these discs just may be the answer to the concerns of the
storage life. then again in 10-15 years most people will probably have
moved on to the other disc formats coming out that hold much more data.
