But apart from all that - shoot on DigiBeta with the best cameraman and
camera you can find for your budget - then edit at a low cost editing
house with a young cheap but gifted editor who wants to make good. The
cameraman will give you good lighting - and much of the result from
anything is in the lighting - and the editor will adjust the gamma and
other stuff of the picture to give you a best approximation to 35mm
they can do . The "film" look has been worked on for many years now,
and any editor worth having should have their own ways with this to
suit the equipment they have available. Whether you can get what you
want for $2k depends on lots of things, but long experience of doing
this sort of stuff says that this is the least worst route.
