It's strange, and only anecdotal, but I've found that the best DVD
players are either very high end (think $1000 players) or very low end.
I've had great luck with both an Apex and Cyberhome on the cheap end,
and you'll have to kill me to get me to part with my Denon 2900. On
the other hand, the mid-grade player I had shot craps (RCA with
Panasonic guts). Several folks I know have had similar experiences
with mid-grade players and found sanctuary in a Wal-Mart cheapie.
My theory is that the major brands need a higher profit margin than the
no-name China cheapies and therefore cut more corners to eke out a few
more % points.
