Subtitles are encoded bitmaps, and do not exist on the DVD in a textual
form, so they cannot. See

and
http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#3.4 (at the paragraph starting "A
disc also can have up to 32 subpicture streams"). In principle "Closed
Captions" might do what you want, but realistically that is unlikely.
