WinMX isn't a service, Mike, it's software that allows its users to
share data over a network. It was never really a service, fee-based or
otherwise. In the year since you last used it, or even paid much
attention to any events surrounding it, WinMX's creators were served a
so-called "cease and desist" order. Though the system was down
initially last fall, and despite the media still listing WinMX as one
of several victims of Entertainment Industry lawyers, third party users
had the system back up and running almost immediately. You had to
download some new files, but by now it's become much easier. Just go
to winmxworld
http://www.winmxworld.com/
and download the 2.2 installer.
