If the past is any indication, we will eventually see the original trilogy
released again in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack
and an audio commentary.
Then we start all over with the HD-DVD and/or Blue Ray formats.
I'm not necessarily knocking George Lucas (or his companies), but they are
well known for extracting every last penny out of consumers.
As mentioned earlier, George once made the statement that "Star Wars" would
never be released on video (VHS) because it was meant to be seen on the big
screen.
After the "Star Trek -II: Wrath of Kahn" became the first low-priced video
release ($19.95 at a time when nearly all other movies we selling for
$60-$100 for a VHS copy) Lucas said "Star Wars" would never be priced that
low for consumers (meaning that it would remain priced for rental-only at
$100).
After releasing the '97 "Special Editions" on video in 2004, he said as far
as he was concerned the '97 Special Editions were the final version... that
until that time it was a 'work in progress' and now that they were
completed, that was the only version he would ever offer to consumers.
Of course we now know that his words mean nothing, but George does have the
right to say whatever he wants then change his mind.
I'm not knocking his business model, I'm just stating that historically, he
milks every last penny out of his products.
