You can make it use the newer LAME engine.

It's nice, but not quite as good as CDex or Exact Audio Copy. CDex and
Exact Audio Copy feature "secure ripping", which means that they are
better at getting a good rip if a disc is dirty, damaged or copy-controlled.

CDex and Exact Audio Copy are free.

I can't tell for sure, but EncSpot identifies the MP3 I just made with
MediaSource as a test as being made by FhG FastEnc.
