From a purely military point of view, you cannot occupy a country with
the ratio's were doing. I seem to recall that typically you need 20
occupiers per 1000 population for success in a hostile area, but we're
trying to do it on the cheap again with 5 per 1000.

For the longest time, the US 500 pound gorilla was what was keeping the
place from getting on with the civil war they were always going to have.
The hope was that we could get a new functionion goverment in place that
would mitigate the chaos. They seem to have got tired of waiting. It
dosen't help that we disbanded the army at the very start and that their
government has more in common with the clown sideshow at the circus.
