Actually, no, I've never had to file a postal insurance claim as either a
buyer or a seller. As a seller, I "self-insure" all the time. If the item is
not delivered or damaged, I settle the claim with an immediate full or
partial refund. A lot less hassle than going through the PO, I'm sure.

I still don't see how postal insurance protects the buyer. The seller has an
obligation to deliver the goods to the buyer as described. It's up to him
whether he feels it necessary to buy the insurance to make up for any
damages incurred.

In the case of the OP's rant, the seller needs to create a "company" name
for his self-insurance and buy a rubber stamp to mark the packages. Then,
everything will be the way it was, but the buyer wouldn't be crying.
