Here in Australia (and I think in Britain) we've had recent releases of
Rodgers and Hammerstein 50th Anniversary Editions of (among others)
South Pacific and Carousel, similar in style to the anniversary reissue
in the States of Oklahoma.
These double-disc sets are anamorphic transfers, with good extra
features. The South Pacific also includes a longer Road-show version
which hasn't been seen since its original cinema release.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are plans for Region One
releases of these sets. I'll probably double-dip, to get the movie
soundtracks at correct pitch -- the PAL speedup is really noticeable on
these, especially on South Pacific. I've checked all the usual sources
for release info (DVDJournal, DavisDVD etc) but can find no news. It
seems v. odd that these would have been given international release,
but are ignored in the States.
