I've never had to buy a screen-protector to keep my screen readable;
the frame of my player is sufficiently scratch proof as well. I can
use rechargeable or disposable batteries depending on my choice, not
Apple's.

AA batteries are easier for everybody to replace. Cheaper too. And
that's putting aside the initial pricetag of each player.

Or you can get the CD player, which carries its batteries internally.
I haven't seen an external pack on a CD player since 1987.

Whereas the CD player can work without resort to any apps whatsoever.
Except for that crowd that thinks that Windows file manager is a 3rd
party app.

did somebody say P2P? Okay, piracy aside, DRM is likely going to be an
issue for everybody. However, I've manages to rip & tear for years
already - there's tons of existing software on the internet. What does
iTunes really offer you? That is, if I didn't own an iPod, would I
want iTunes anyway? Thing is, neither answer makes the case for iPod -
if iTunes was so great with an iPod, I'd just integrate it with my
existing player; if it wasn't, then iTunes wouldn't be any reason to
get an iPod. Everybody I know whose into music already has stacks of
CD's because they've already gotten most of the music
they want - ITMS adds nothing for them, and iPod even less.

Or use an existing alternative that obviates the need for those
accessories, or I already have, or....

There's no argument from me that Apple has achieved in the marketing
world something like the Wright Brother's & the formula for Plutonium.
It's a massive achievement on the excutive side. I'm just concerned
with whether iPod offers the consumer any reasonably comparable leap in
player technology.
