That would include people like... oh... for one random example... me. I
don't need any abstract theorizing about "people" as a whole to
understand my own case. I bought an iPod nano for my daughter. I 100%
guarantee from first-hand knowledge that iTMS had nothing to do with the
choice. I got it for the 12 Gb of digitized (non-DRM) music that I
already had. (Legally; most of it was either ripped from CDs I had
purchased or digitized from my old LPs).
As long as I was getting her the iPod anyway, I went ahead and also got
her a $25 iTMS card - yes, as an afterthought. That $25 finally got used
up just a few weeks ago, which makes it about 8 months after I got the
iPod. It is a miniscule fraction of what is on the iPod. And yes, I also
burned copies to CD, as the DRM allows. I don't like DRM at all, but
Apple's is sure a lot better than most; it actually does allow me to do
everything that I happen to want to do (including those copies on CD).
P.S. I have NREN2k5 killfiled, so I won't see anything on this that he
might say... and I am quite confident that I won't regret what I miss.
