The software makes the experience better.

Drag and drop is fine on a flash player or CDR, but not necessarily on a
60 GB player.

No (same for other WMA DRM services), but you can populate your iPod
from other than iTMS.

For <1GB or so, yes. Managing an HDD or larger flash player practically
needs management software. iTunes makes it easy with one flat list you
can add to your player or playlists.

Then how come Apple is the market dominator?
