In my experience I would approach Avid 7 with some caution if you are
proposing to do a lot of DVD authoring. I can confirm that can be a
bit clunky -- as an example, suddenly producing a duplicate set of
chapter points just when you thought you were getting where you wanted
to be.
It's SUPPOSED to be much better in v7 (with SP2), but I was badly
burned with the previous incarnation (Pinnacle LEv6) in that I ended up
with 2000 discs pressed before I discovered that there was a menu
problem that affected many low-budget players (eg LG and Alba), but
also some high-end stuff such certain Panasonic models). It has caused
me no end of hassle putting the problem right and dealing with
disgruntled customers.
It may well be that the glitch has been solved now, but I just can't
bring myself to trust it. BASIC DVDs are fine, but I'm not confident
about complicated stuff.
