read they hadn't had a successful stamping run?

Funny, I didn't see the word "hope" in there anywhere. It says that they
*will* be open in time for Christmas, no hopes about it.

Costs of the discs themselves are a very minor factor in the final retail
price of a video disc.

would factor in cost as well as quality.
