DVCAM is a dead issue since there apparently will be no DVCAM HD. The
HD100 and reasonable equivalent in price (Sony Z1U) are different in
their actual format. While both are HDV, one is 1080i and the other is
720p. There are a number of other differences such as the JVC having a
standard bayonet-mount lense adapter while the Sony has a fixed lens.
I have heard that the Sony is the only camcorder in its price range
that is matched with the glass in such a way to avoid color aberrations
but I have never seen any evidence of them on the JVC in what little
use we've given it. You can of course buy more expensive lenses but
they probably cost more than the camcorder.
Research it closely - it's a long-term investment.
