It wouldn't make a lot of sense that three of our cameras were
manufactured with the same out of standard alignment, from Sony.

Google led me to Southern Photo, which has offices in both Orlando and
St. Pete. I have related my experience with the St Pete office. At least
the Orlando office told me over the phone that they weren't competent to
work on VX-2000s.

Three of them were mine; one was this very thread. Not a lot of help in
there. Defrag your hard drive. Replace your firewire.
I have suspected the tape before, but in this shoot (the graduations),
our other camera that was there used the same type of tape, from the
same box, and had no problems on all four graduations. Shoots recorded
on VX-2000 and played back on cheap Sony camcorder for capture. But with
my camera, problem.
I have recorded some shoots with no problems, but one shoot had a large
dropout using the Excellence tape, on one spot of the tape, but OK
elsewhere. My next experiment will be to capture the same problem
sections twice, then see if the dropouts occur in the exact same spots
on both. If not, it is a playback problem more than a capture problem.
