I once saw a 30-ft square reflector mounted on a large
"cherry picker" arm on a truck ("back lot" of Paramount
shooting a "Boston" street scene for Ally McBeal. They
were shooting in the late afternoon and had to keep re-
adjusting the reflector as the sun moved.
Note that historically, they shot in morning or afternoon
to avoid the very kinds of mid-day problems the OP is
having problems with.
These days, they shoot whenever they waht, but they
have to rent a 30-ft lighting/grip truck full of 6K HMI
high-brightness "fill" lights and a generator to run them.
