The other day (while driving) I was listening to this Computer Tech
program on the AM dial (while waiting for the news to come on) and all
of a sudden they got onto the topic of what new TV technology is
already available on the market now, and the technology which is coming
down the pike for the TV viewer and MAN if even half of what they were
talking about (like for example complete season/series downloads to
TIVO units so you could see say all three seasons of Gilligans Island
or Wonder Woman or MASH on the spot in one chunk with no cuts or
commercials) I do not think TV networks (especially ones like Scifi,TV
Land,TBS and others who are on the thin edge ad generated revenues) in
general and cable television in particular can survive in their present
form!
Frankly if they (cable) have had to resort to stuff like On Demand
freebies already for the competition generated by the DISH and DVD how
on earth are they going to compete with say direct Internet Downloads
of new movies that could even beat the release dates of it on DVD???
DVDs which now beat the offerings now available on even cable PPV
nevermind say its premier on HBO/Showtime (heck sometimes by the time
it shows up on HBO I a DVD of it already sitting on a shelf)?
