I'm with Kevin on this one.

Upscaling only takes away scanlines. It can guess at what detail it's
missing, but it can't accruately add details and textures which simply
aren't there on the disc.

I personally am not in any real hurry to upgrade. There's enough detail on
a decent dvd transfer with the projector satisfies me, watching VHS doesn't.
I think this is the main stumbling block for manufacturers, dvd is already a
format which is plenty good enough for the vast majority of consumers. It's
the same with digital cameras, why would anyone regular snapshot taker want
more than 5 megapixels? There must surely come a time when enough's enough.

HD will have to be cheap, and the online dvd rental firms will needs to be
renting the discs, at no premium, before I look to upgrade.
